The Godfather II ‘Debut’ Teaser Trailer

Electronic Art’s upcoming third-person action sequel The Godfather II, goes beyond the film’s story by setting players in the world of organized crime in 1960’s Florida, Cuba and New York.

According to the game’s storyline:

“After being promoted by Michael Corleone to Don of New York, players expand to new cities, as they build up their families through extorting businesses, monopolizing illegal crime rings and defeating new families in an effort to become the most powerful mob family in America.

To help players manage their empire, The Godfather II introduces “The Don’s View” which is a strategy meta-game that allows players to oversee the entire world as they grow the family business. Using the Don’s View, players will be able to build, defend and expand their crime rings, while keeping an eye on the movements and plans of the rival families. Players will also learn to master the business of organized crime by building a family of “Made Men”, hiring crew, handing out orders, and promoting their best men up the ranks.”

Spore Has Gone Gold

It really is about damn time. After numerous delays and too many impressive showings to keep track of, EA and Maxis have finally announced that Spore is completely finished. The game will be hitting Europe on September 5 before heading to Asia and North America on September 7.

“We are so excited to finally get Spore into the hands of fans and players,” said Lucy Bradshaw, executive producer of Spore at Maxis. “The Maxis studio has had an absolute blast creating Spore, but the fun is just beginning. The most engaging stories are truly the ones people create themselves, and we can’t wait to see how players not only craft and explore the Spore universe, but hear what stories they have to tell as a result.”

As someone who has lost far too many hours just to the simple act of making new species in the Creature Creator, I can’t wait to actually be able to play this game. Finally, my fluffy, winged, cactus-like creation will be able to find a home amongst his own kind.

Gemma Atkinson For Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3

according to a recent press release, British soap opera star Gemma Atkinson will be lending her voice to the highly anticipated third installment in the Command and Conquer RTS franchise, Red Alert 3.

If you follow the soap opera scene overseas, you may recall that Gemma played the character Lisa Hunter on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks and two spin-off series Holyoaks: Let it Loose, and Hollyoaks: In the City. If she still does not ring a bell to you, you may have seen her on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! or have perhaps seen her spreads in different media as a fashion and lingerie model. Sierra’s Last Game is The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Would you like to hear a sad tale? It begins almost 30 years ago when a small video game developer named “Sierra Entertainment” was founded by a husband and wife team working out of their own home. A decade later, the company had been picked up by investors and created the groundbreaking King’s Quest, Space Quest, and Police Quest series, cementing them as leaders in the adventure game genre. By the end of the 90’s the company had grown into a full-fledged publisher of instant classics like Homeworld and Half-Life and its expansions.

Game Critics Awards

We all love lists, especially when they mean something. Today’s list was brought to you by the Game Critics Awards, an independent group of game reviewers from 36 news outlets, including the Los Angeles Times.

Unlike critics of other types of entertainment, game critics have not been rendered redundant in the age of the Internet, where everyone is a critic. This is largely because game journalists have access to “playable” game versions long before the public gets its hands on the title. And because serious gamers devote lots of time researching hot titles to determine what to buy weeks before they even hit store shelves, the opinion of the game critic is even more important. Do Girls Prefer Girl-Designed Games?

Eight same sex, same grade teams (four 5th and four 8th grade) were guided through a
two week space learning and game design brainstorm camp to envision a game concept
that would “make kids just like you” become interested in space exploration. The 8
child-envisioned game ideas were adapted into short (roughly 3 minute) promos for
hypothetical space learning games. The promos were shown to 145 middle school
children without revealing the gender of the design teams. Girl games were perceived
as better for learning. Rank order results showed same gender preferences. Females like
girl games better and males like boy games better. However general liking measures are
weaker, showing that males really like boy games, and females react negatively to
violent themes. Females rated girl games closer to gender neutral than boy games,
although all were overwhelmingly perceived of as for boy or for everyone rather than
for girls.
